Rubiales Oilfield

Rubiales Oilfield, Llanos Basin

The RSDD-H IPD display below illustrates the strength of anomaly (black and dark tone areas) observed over the central part of the Rubiales giant, heavy oilfield in the Llanos of eastern Colombia. This image is just one of many processed here by Scotforth during the past five years. From early reconnaissance surveys through to recent local high resolution mapping it became clear that this field was at the hub of an emerging play fairway of very material reserves. Pacific Rubiales has championed the field's early development and constructed a major new export pipeline such that the field is producing 72MBD today and will continue to increase to 170MBD by 2011.

Even more interestingly, Scotforth has observed the progressive delineation and testing of the Greater Rubiales Field District's reserves potential and how Pacific Rubiales with the support of seismic surveys is stepping out to test field extensions and new field satellites with some success. Scotforth's mapping of this "Greater Rubiales Field District" had identified such potential before these operator programs took place.

In May 2008, Scotforth predicted that Rubiales would become a super-giant with ultimate field reserves in the range of 500 million barrels recoverable to 1 billion barrels recoverable and that the nearby surrounding play district might contain about half as much again. It predicted at that time an eventual offtake from this Greater Rubiales "Hub" of around 250MBD. The recent technical and operating results of Pacific Rubiales are moving the field's potential in this direction.

More regionally, Scotforth has examined considerable tracts of the Llanos Heavy Oil play fairway and believes that further such major field "Hubs" await discovery in the coming decade. It has commercial surveys and "Exploration Focus Area" products available.
