History of SFL

Scotforth Limited was incorporated in Year 2000 to commercialise the use of the Remote Sensing Direct Detection of Hydrocarbons technology ('RSDD-H') in international, onshore petroleum exploration.

This followed an earlier history of RSDD-H development comprising of:

  • Initial R&D from 1974 through the latter days of the USSR in which RSDD-H was evolved as a new exploration tool to help identify oil and gas prospects in the USSR's vast, remote frontier basins.
  • First stage commercialisation in late USSR and early FSU (Former Soviet Union) days, particularly from 1993 onwards when a private joint stock company 'BPC-93' was established in Minsk, Belarus.
  • Subsequent international trialling from 1997-2000 in a joint venture between BPC-93 and Hutchison's international petroleum consultancy firm - Criffel Enterprises Limited.

During this development cycle a vast archive of maps, prospects and processed satellite images was compiled, increasingly attesting to the exploration merits of RSDD-H.

Since Year 2000, SFL has explored widely using RSDD-H research and commercial surveys with and for associates and clients in a growing number of petroleum provinces, frontier basins and countries. These include:

  • North America - Canada, USA (including Alaska)
