BRETANA OILFIELD

Bretana Oilfield Discovery District, Maranon Basin, Peru

RSDD-H processed imagery illustrates the existence of an interesting and under-explored heavy oil exploration focus area ("EFA") in the eastern parts of the Maranon Basin. The IPD display below shows four large, dark tone, intense prospective anomalies of which only the Bretana-1-X anomaly has been drilled. That well, drilled by Amoco in 1974, tested 807 BOPD of 18 degree crude oil from the Vivian Sandstone formation.

The displayed scene also shows three further adjacent leads and one dry hole, Envidia -1, in an off-anomaly location. The pale tone surrounding areas in the display are considered poorly prospective.

Global Energy (Harken), licensee of Maranon Block 95, suggests that the P4 reserves of the Bretana field may be in the order of 163m bbls. Scotforth notes that in one of their public presentations of the district they identify several additional prospects and leads in the area to the south of Bretana. RSDD-H surveying suggests that the local Bretana field district might actually prove to be much larger than currently estimated and hold reserves of perhaps three to four times those currently suggested.  Given modern heavy oil extraction technology, this under-appraised and under-explored field district could become commercial and provide an economic southern extension to the greater Sub-Andean Heavy Oil Belt play fairway.

RSDD-H has the capacity to identify further such prospective "hubs" and "EFAs" within this great multi-country play fairway.

As always, Scotforth emphasises that this display is just one image of the many that would be used to prepare and complete a full survey prospectivity interpretation.
